Julie and Julia

I was in no hurry to see this movie, in fact I hated the whole idea of it. First of all how in the world would you be able to do Julia, she is a one of a kind gal. I watched her and would laugh at her, I am not sure that I learned a lot from her show and never bought her books. I got that she was amazing in the cooking world, but all that butter. And the man handling of chicken was not my cup of tea. Her and a knife seemed out of control. Kinda like the Galloping Gore ma...drunk! So when this movie came out I thought no way can this be good. Her voice alone was like scratching a chalk board. But this evening I turned it on Stars and started watching it. I found her, Oh I don't know, Odd at best. With all this said, I have been a follower of Martha when no one knew who she was....OK so I have no taste!!!! I like Martha...love her stuff!
I cried, I loved it, I didn't want it to end and will watch it again....go figure!! Can you believe I cried over this movie, I found it very touching, and well it was delightful. What could be learned from this?????? Art comes in all forms.....sometimes ya can't see the forest for the tree's. Or go deeper, she had a lovely life!!!
Saturday started with getting our Beagles ready to go to the vet. They needed their nails cut. To understand this...they love to go bye-bye, but as soon as you turn the corner on 12th Street they know this is not going to be fun. They are mostly out of control until they are back home. Why take them at the same time you might ask...well, LB howls until Mattie is home again. I mean in your face loud howling. No matter what you do he will not stop. On the other hand Mattie could care less if LB is gone...she just does her own thing. The most important thing in life to her is food and setting on my feet at the computer. In that order. No this has nothing to do with Julia...just wanted to share...then I worked in the flower beds and didn't wear sun block..We Idahoans can't seem to get that you can get burned out there. Tomorrow after months of bad weather, I will go out to shop and see sunburned faces everywhere...it is what it is. Happy Sunday!!!

Dad got 'Julie & Julia' for Mom for Christmas- we watched it that day- the movie was awesome! We all laughed and Mom and I cried.
Hope you didn't get to sunburned- remember sunscreen is your friend :)
Hope the beagles had an uneventful trip to the vet- we took the cats last month for immunizations and exam- it is easier to take them both than go multiple times with each one- so I get why you take LB and Mattie together- it is just easier.
Sounds like you are having a good weekend- take care- thinking about you!
Love You- Sara

I've been wanting to see that movie. I'll probably get it on DVD.

I always like Martha, too. I'm never going to do any of the things she does but I love the fact that she does them.

I didn't know much about Julia Child when I decided to give the movie a try. I do love Meryl Streeps acting. How could SHE not be good? I guess what I liked was a woman of Julia child's era succeeding as she did, it was very brave of her. And being a bit quirky just made her all the more interesting. I liked that her husband respected what she was doing too. Supported her in it.
As for the young Julie who wrote her book...well, come to think of it I don't remember too much about her at this point, so I guess that did not make the biggest impression for me. It was a good enough movie!
Funny dogs yours...and hope you will now remember the importance of sun screen! ;-)

Just me trying to catch up AGAIN. I do not know how the time gets away from me so. I really enjoyed reading about your grandfathers hat. And it is so true that smells will provoke certain memories.
Be careful out in that sun.
Are you still keeping a weight loss journal?

I am glad you liked "Julie and Julia" too. I hope you get to see "Letters to Juliet". I hardly ever get to movies anymore. Can't afford it, for one thing. This is the first movie I've been to since Christmas, when Kristen and I went to "Sherlock Holmes." Before that, it was probably "Julie and Julia".

All those years I watched her cook on TV I had no idea about her life. I found the movie interesting. She certainly introduced us to French cooking and opened the door for women to become professional chefs.
