I have missed you...and a baby quilt...

I really don't know where to start...so I will dive in and see what comes to mind. My computer was laid to rest...it burned up or something horrible.. I would turn it on and it would work for about an hour and then all the fans would come on and it would black-out. Then I would have to wait for hours to turn it on again.. I miss it since I was used to it, and it has taken a little time to get going on the new one. It has allot more things going on and will not take some of my old programs:). I was ready to kill it after the third day, just get it out of here...frustration!!! I am still feeling less that ready to use it, but I keep pushing the buttons and hope.
Then it seemed like the sky opened and everything seemed to turn upside down. Arney's 91 year young Mother (Ruth) became gravely ill and had to be put into the hospital in California. So Arney got on a plain out and we prayed that she would hang on for him to get there. Her Kidneys were failing and everything seemed to be shutting down. She was In ICU,it has been a really hard time for us all, she is loved. Arney is still with her and she is doing really well. I think he along with his sister were the best med she could get. Her Kidneys are doing well and she is ready to go home.
While this was going on....I had our Beagle "Matti Anne" put to sleep. She had been ill for along time and it was getting worse by the day. I thought that I was ready to let her go, but when it was time, I could hardly bare it. She was a wonderful little friend and she will always be apart of our life. So many memories...
As for me, I have taken this time away from the computer to clean and work on this little baby quilt. I had not shared that there was a baby coming because our Kristie had some problems and things were unsure at times. But our new baby girl is due July 31st. We didn't think she would go to full term, but so far so good. They are still working on a name...to be continued when I know what they have come up with. This is number 5 for our Cory.
The quilt is baby pink with white polka Dots. I designed the flowers, there are 48 flowers. I am now stitching the quilt together...about half way done, so you see I have not been idol. I am doing everything by hand, I love hand stitching.
I will be going to all of your blogs, it will take awhile so please be patient with me. And I may not be on as often since it is summer and we have so much planned when Arney comes home. And yes, trying to figure this computer out and finding what I need on it to play with pictures and such.
I hope everyone is enjoying summer, I really didn't think it would get here...but it has and everything is growing so pretty. Tonight we have a storm coming in so I have to shut some windows and wait for the big blow!! Miss each and everyone of you....Hugs, Mary

Computer problems

I do not know when I will be on my blog again. My computer is not working properly and it looks like it may have to go to the computer hospital. I will be back as soon as I can.
I will be going through blog withdrawl while we get this on fixed. Have fun, think of me!!!

Saturday was family day...we watched our Grandson play baseball. This was the season play off and Summit's team won...and then to my son Cory home to give him his Birthday gift...it was a very good day. For those that will recall, I made Alexis a Journal...she shared with me her first page..I can't put into words what this meant to this Ole Grandma....I love that she put all the different colored flowers...she is so special...I love that at 8 she can express herself like this....Grandma Love.... click to enlarge..

Johnny Depp

I have a date tonight with Johnny....I went to the store and bought his movie...I have a feeling it is going to be not my cup of tea, but it's Johnny. I will give a review after watching....The special effects are really fun and it is beautiful. We all know the story, so there really isn't anything new when it comes to that...I really enjoyed it and will watch it again. I really like the girl that plays Alice. And Johnny is once again showing his love of being odd and fun.

Camps remembered

Cascade Lake, Idaho....As the sun went down you would find youth sitting in front of this cross with a camp fire blazing. Stories where told here, short plays were put on here, sometimes we laugh and sometimes we cried when you saw the love they shared, and the gift of knowing God in there life. No matter where these youth are today, they will remember this. And I will forever feel apart of there lives. Our lodge was about a hundred feet from this cross.

Cascade Christian camp in Winter..it is lovely...Each winter Arney and I would lead a winter camp with the helping hands of so many wonderful friends. A time of fellowship, snowmobiling, snow caves, and our very own winter Olympics on the hill. It was a winter wonderland where our youth came together and shared the beauty of our camp and each other.

I have shared with some of you that I was a Youth Director and counselor for high school youth in our church. Since there is a plan for a big gathering in June, I thought it would be fun to share this with you. I am on the far right with the white tee shirt on...the redhead. My daughter Jenny is on the first row with the long blond hair both arms out to her friends ...she is number 4 from the left. I loved doing camps...for 8 days there was no phone...teaching and learning, games and the word of God, it was excellent!!! Camp food, not so good!!!

Birthday project for Cory & a fun find

Question: Does anyone know anything about these old tables. I found this one, it didn't cost me anything, it was in the trash. It is in great condition, but it does need to have some sanding and clean up. I plan to use plastic spray on the table top...but not the chrome...I think they were used in apartments with matching chairs. I have had it for a couple of years, and since I do not have a craft room, this could be my craft table. I love that it is small and the leaf's drop down...any idea's????

One hundred pages of my son Cory....I am not done, but wanted you to see what I have been doing with much of my time of late...I am doing captions and little stories on each photo. I have also put pictures of Grandparents and Great Grandparents. This is just a peek because I am not sure that he would want you to see it all. You might enjoy doing this for someone you love. It is a small leather album. Happy Birthday Cory!!!!!

Honor O'Flynn married William Logsdon....

I thought this would be fun to share....I thought of our Julie, who knows so much about the Irish and everything Celtic. I have learn so much from her. As you know I am knee deep into research of my ancestors. I haven't counted the Great, Greats that has taken me to this story, but these are Grandparents from another time and place.
William Logsdon and Honor O'Flynn married on the 4th of July 1723 in St Paul's Church, Baltimore, Maryland. The story of Honor O'Flynn tells of a beautiful Irish girl with great plety, kidnapped from her home in County Kerry, Ireland, brought to America and sold. Then they were married. It is through Honor O'Flynn that the Catholic faith element and Irish ancestry appears in the Durbin line...also my family line. These quotes about Honor O'Flynn Logsdon were taken from Kentucky Catholic records reported by Father Elisha Durbin, a Catholic priest in Kentucky and son of John C. Durbin and Patience Logsdon also part of my family line. As we research Honor, we find that she was sold on the Baltimore, Maryland docks for one hogshead of tobacco to one William Logsdon to pay for her ship's steerage. More to come....

Julie and Julia

I was in no hurry to see this movie, in fact I hated the whole idea of it. First of all how in the world would you be able to do Julia, she is a one of a kind gal. I watched her and would laugh at her, I am not sure that I learned a lot from her show and never bought her books. I got that she was amazing in the cooking world, but all that butter. And the man handling of chicken was not my cup of tea. Her and a knife seemed out of control. Kinda like the Galloping Gore ma...drunk! So when this movie came out I thought no way can this be good. Her voice alone was like scratching a chalk board. But this evening I turned it on Stars and started watching it. I found her, Oh I don't know, Odd at best. With all this said, I have been a follower of Martha when no one knew who she was....OK so I have no taste!!!! I like Martha...love her stuff!
I cried, I loved it, I didn't want it to end and will watch it again....go figure!! Can you believe I cried over this movie, I found it very touching, and well it was delightful. What could be learned from this?????? Art comes in all forms.....sometimes ya can't see the forest for the tree's. Or go deeper, she had a lovely life!!!
Saturday started with getting our Beagles ready to go to the vet. They needed their nails cut. To understand this...they love to go bye-bye, but as soon as you turn the corner on 12th Street they know this is not going to be fun. They are mostly out of control until they are back home. Why take them at the same time you might ask...well, LB howls until Mattie is home again. I mean in your face loud howling. No matter what you do he will not stop. On the other hand Mattie could care less if LB is gone...she just does her own thing. The most important thing in life to her is food and setting on my feet at the computer. In that order. No this has nothing to do with Julia...just wanted to share...then I worked in the flower beds and didn't wear sun block..We Idahoans can't seem to get that you can get burned out there. Tomorrow after months of bad weather, I will go out to shop and see sunburned faces everywhere...it is what it is. Happy Sunday!!!

Mothers day Sandals

Two posts in on day...shocking!!!! After visiting Janet's blog and seeing her shoe art, I thought maybe it was okay to share my new sandals...I do not think picking out shoes would be considered an art, but it was fun. I am a flip flop girl in the summer. But these are going to be so much fun. It will be in the 80's tomorrow and I can hardly wait. It has been a cold long spring. All my Kids and grandkids came for Mothers day...we had Pizza, fruit bowl, and Strawberry cheese cake...yes, I ate some:(.....it was so good!!!!!! The sandals came from the gift card that Cory and Kristie gave me for Macy's. So yesterday I went shoe shopping and it was so much fun. I looked at everything they had and tried on to many....but if you love shoes, it is a good thing. Then it happened, I heard my name coming from the display ....And there they were, just waiting for me. A Brand that is new to me...they are "Lucky" and they are really earthy. I think there is something to be said about a good shoe story....do you have one? Mary:) I even like the shoebox!!!! Do read Gandpa's Hat....I posted it earlier....

Grandpa's Hat....

I would like you to meet Dinni B Stinnett. This is My Grandpa....came to California during the Dust Bowl era, and stayed to be a Share Cropper, growing cotton on 40 ac. It would take a book to tell all I know and love about Grandpa. So for now I will share this on thing... Grandpa's..........Hat
I believe that smell is a powerful trigger for our memories...One of the things that stands out is the smell of my Grandpa's Hat. The only time it was off his head was when he was sleeping, and it hung on a hook near by. When I was a little girl we would set on the old cot that was under the Mulberry Tree near the front porch. I would set next to him and talk none stop. I was known by my family as the chatter box. Grandpa was a man of few words. He would nod his head now and then or make a sound like he heard me. He would take his hat off and use a handkerchief to wipe off the sweat from his head and face. The California Valleys are very hot in the summer. I would put that old hat on my own head and he would laugh. I could smell the sweet sweat mingled with tobacco and earth. My Dad would buy him a new hat when he saw that he needed one. I would so love to have one of his hats hanging on a hook in my house right now. Do you have a smell that reminds you of a time, place, person? I bet you do if you think about it......Happy memories!
