Doctor's Order!

Where to start.....6 months ago our family doctor gave me the news that my Cholesterol was a little high. So my plan was to get it down on my own. I went in to get my check up just before Christmas and my test came back that it was still to high and that my Glucose Level was high. So I am taking sugar out of my life, keeping only the natural sugar that comes in fruit. Arney bought me a beautiful juicer, so I am doing some juicing to get me started. The goal is to get well which means low fat diet, weight loss and exercise...with medication to help me get the numbers down on the Cholesterol. It is all a little overwhelming, but I know that this is going to be good. Arney is helping me. He likes the juicer a lot...likes to play with it.
A little history....I was always too thin, most of my life I was under a hundred pounds. Like a lot of people, I gained weight in my late 30's and did not find out till my late 40's that my thyroid had stopped doing it's job. Because of my sinus problems my ear, noes and throat doctor gave me one shot a year to shrink the polyps in my sinus...this was a steroid. I let it all get out of hand after I stopped working. I do not eat a lot of food, but I eat the wrong food. I am not one to set down and eat a box of cookies or a bag of chips...but I do hunt for food, something to put in my mouth...just the wrong food. Late night is hard too. So I have some really bad habits to let go of.
I am fat...that is the truth of it, and I let it happen. So I am getting busy getting thin and healthy. I will share my journey now and then to let you know some of my milestones. I think it will help if I can put a few words on my blog, because it will be a daily challenge to get this done.
weight today 231 pounds.

I wish you all the best in your endeavors to get fit. I think a juicer would be a great way to get the recommended fruits & veggies we're supposed to get. Eating right and getting all the necessary nutrients is so hard, particularly since we live in a world of plenty and so many processed foods. One thing I have been doing is incorporating a lot of jalapeno peppers into my cooking, soups, etc. It's supposed to be a "fat burner." I get a package at the Asian market and throw them into almost everything. I will encourage you along the way, and I hope you will motivate me to eat healthier and get in better shape. Nan

I'm going to be attempting to do daily excercising...so I'm with ya! Good luck and may you find the strengh to be successful. Just starting is half the battle!
I'm rooting for you.

You are not alone! I was doing pretty good until Thanksgiving! And then with all the goodies I sort of fell off the wagon, so to speak. We have a juicer, too and use it quite a bit. I just need to get up and move more!! That's my problem!

You are brave to blog about this Mary and to admit your weight as well!!! BRAVO you are already on the right track. I am overweight too, and need to lose for sure. I also love sweets and crave chocolate and things that aren't good for me. Juicing is so healthy. We have one...my son is big into health and juices kale and berries all the time. It's not as bad as it sounds. Good luck and hope you have a healthy New Year!

Hi Mary,

I know just how you feel. I've gained too much weight in the last few years too, and it is starting to affect my life, and health to the point that I know I have to stop procrastinating and really do something about it. I wish you much success as you embark on this journey. I know it can be hard, but I know you can do it too.

Boy is this boat getting crowded...
I can say a big DITTO, to all of the above. Admitting the problem, then having a made up mind to do something about it is a great start
so I think you can do this....it will be interesting to watch the progress, thanks for sharing.
HAPPY NEW YEAR
