A wonderful gift and I made a tote today...The One That Got Away is the prompt

Arney came home from work saying, lets go to Costco. I love to go there and on the way he shared that we would be looking at Monitors for my computer....Yikes. I had the box type, it is old, but worked good. Cory my son had given me a Monitor yesterday that was a flat screen, so I was happy. But Arney wanted this big one for me, so this was what I came home with this evening. It is 24 inches, it is amazing.
I had taken out the sewing machine today and made myself a tote, and thought about making some for the girls, I think this turned out good. It is a heavy soft fabric and I really had fun making it. I had this fabric from a yard sale last year...I loved the look and feel of it but really had no idea what it might become.

It was warm sunny with a little breeze, it felt so good. If it is the same tomorrow, I will be in the back yard part of the day. happy Spring! Mary

I continue to be apart of Art journal-ing, and it has been really fun. 1960 & 1963 was a time of many changes. School was all about friends, homework, The next dance, the cars, the hair, Coca Cola, gum, clothes, the Music was apart of everything. Good parents, bad parents, freedom, babysitting, who like who and who loves you? The slang that we loved and our parents hated. And the list goes on!!!!!!! click on page to enlarge:)

Collage...Orange.... Waste of time...Listen to Music....Sharpie

There must be loads more things that can be done with a sharpie, but this was all I could come up with. I must have 6 or seven sharpies, some are large points, some are medium and then fine.
Opera was one of the first forms of public entertainment. They were some of the first real musical stars all around the world. Although I am not a fan of this form of music, I can realize its importants of the time. Hale! Hale! Rock and Roll.

When I was growing up there were orange tree's as far as the eye could see in Southern, California. And the smell of the blossom's were amazing.

The prompt is "Collage." I think because my Grandparents were part of the migration from Oklahoma to California, I find a connection to this history. They left the land they loved with hope that this California would give them back a life less tragic...but the truth was that they found life very hard. After a few years of picking fruit and cotton, cutting grapes Grandpa became a Share Cropper. He worked 40 ac of cotton, which gave him a house and very little money. So they really never gained back what they had in Oklahoma, they never owned land in California. But what I remember is the love, the laughter, and the hard work that was the fabric of our family.

Here it Friday and I have done a little catching up with the Art Journaling. I am still a little nerves about this, but I am having fun and that is what I was wanting. I need to get back to my weight journal also...TIC TOC !!!!!

Past, Doodle, Blue, credit cards , future, engine

The prompt is engine....And since I love old pictures it was clear that it should be a old train of some kind. I had found this picture somewhere, and loved it. But didn't have a reason to use it until today. Have a great weekend, Mary
The prompt is Future....I thought about so many things, future cities, people, but the truth is we do not really know what the future looks like. If the people in the 50's would have been right, we would be flying cars and going back and forth to the moon right now. So we dream of what might be, but enjoy today...right now!

the prompt is credit cards....

Blue was the prompt for this page...

Days remembered from when my kids were little....Magic Mountain, California. click on page to enlarge:) I am not a doodler these days...when I was on the phone a lot, then I doodled all the time. So this is my watching T.V doodle and then colored in crayon.

I find it hard to keep up with Art journaling...I hope to get better!

Gift bag for Summit...Grandson turns 10 on Sunday!

I bought a plain large gift bag. Found some really cool tissue paper to put inside with his gift....then waited for the idea's to come. I made large letters on regular computer paper. Found my Martha Stewart glitter ...now I have glitter all over me, the floor, it is probably in my hair. Arney had taken pictures of Summit in January playing his really special drum's, and he can really play them! So I enlarged the picture and cut it out and put it in the middle of what I will call a star burst. Summit has said a few times "You Rock Grandma!" So I thought this was away of letting him know I think he Rock's also. He will be 10 years old Sunday....time sure does fly! Summit is a very gifted little guy. He is an A student and plays sports like a pro! Am I a Grandma or what??? Since I have done my bragging thing, I hope this is a little food for thought when getting a plain gift bag. I am so loving the sun today, I can hardly wait to be busy in my yard! Have a great Weekend, Mary click on picture to enlarge:)

Journal page # 8

The background with peach, blue-green and black reminded me of the 50's. And I could not think of a thing to do with the pages...so I looked at them for two days...the first thing was to ink in the butterfly and flowers.....I liked it, but how do I stay with the theme getting my weight off...then it hit me that I had seen charts where ladies were large down to small. And the rest fell into place. Have a great weekend...Hugs, Mary

sometimes we just have to cry! page #7

This is a digital page I did today....I will probably put it in my Journal. Have you ever had a day where you just had to cry, to many thoughts, or maybe behind the smile things are happening that you just can't share. Today was about tears, and sometimes it is a good thing. So I made this page with the understanding that tomorrow is another day, and everything will be fine. But a good cry can be healing...so if you find yourself needed to shed a few tears....it is a good thing.

In tht Land of Sandra Dee...just for fun!

Sandra Dee... Long ago and far away,
in a land that time forgot,
before the days of Dylan
or the dawn of Camelot.

There lived a race of innocents,
and they were you and me,
long ago and far away
In the Land of Sandra Dee.

Oh, there was truth and goodness
In that land where we were born,
where navels were for oranges,
and Peyton Place was porn.

For Ike was in the White House,
And Hoss was on TV,
And God was in his heaven
in the land of Sandra Dee.

We spread our crinolines to dry
In circles on the Lawn,
All starched and sprayed and rustling
In the land of Sandra Dee.

We longed for love and romance,
and waited for the prince,
Then Eddie Fisher married Liz,
and no one's seen him since.

We danced to "Little Darlin"
And sang to "Stagger Lee'
we cried for Buddy Holly
In the land of Sandra Dee.

Only girls wore earrings then,
and three was one too many,
when only guys wore flat-top cuts,
In the land of Sandra Dee.

Not even in our wildest dreams
Did we expect to see
A boy named George with lipstick
In the land of Sandra Dee.

We fell for Frankie Avalon,
Annette was oh, so nice,
And when they made a movie,
they may have kissed just twice.

Miss Kitty had a heart of gold,
And Chester had a limp,
And Reagan was a Democrat
whose co-star was a chimp.

We had a Mr. Wizard,
but not a Mr. T,
And Oprah couldn't talk yet
In the land of Sandra Dee.

We had our share of heroes,
we never thought they'd go,
at least not Bobby Darin,
or Marilyn Monroe.
And Elvis was forever,
In the land of Sandra Dee.

We'd never seen the rock band
that was Grateful to be Dead,
Beatles lived in gardens then,
And Monkees in a tree
And the Madonna was a virgin,
In the land of Sandra Dee.

We'd never heard of Microwaves,
or cell phones,
And babies "grown" in Jars,
And Gay meant fancy-free,
And Microchips were what was left
at the bottom of the bag.

Hardware was a box of nails,
and bytes came from a flea,
and our rocket ships were fiction
In the land of Sandra Dee.

Bathing suits came big enough
To cover both your cheeks,
Coke came just in bottles,
and skirts came to the knee,
we had no crest with Fluoride,
or prime-time ads for condoms
In the land of Sandra Dee.

Middle-age was thirty-five
And old was forty-three
And ancient were our parents,
And now I get invitations
to join AARP,
we've come a long way Baby,
From the land of Sandra Dee.

So now we face a brave new world
In "slightly" larger jeans,
And we wonder why they're using
Smaller print in our magazines.

We tell our children's children
of the way it used to be,
Long ago and far away
In the land of Sandra Dee.

Journal page #5

I have learned so much doing these pages... I am still a little unsure of myself while doing them, but they are healing. In the search for what I want to say brings out thoughts I needed to put down in word and graphic. I continue to fight for my good health and the idea of some new clothes when I am ready. But we will save that thought for another time. With the sent of Roses and the love I have been given....I wish you the best of days with the hope that my adventure is interesting along with a little creativity. click to enlarge:)

It's not that some people have willpower and some don't. It's that some people are ready to change.
